ADDICTION: WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW.


Addiction is a neuropsychological  disorder characterised by a persistent and intense urge to engage in certain behaviors, one of which is the usage of a drug , despite substantial harm and other negative consequences. Repetitive drug use often alters brain function in ways that perpetuate craving, and weakens (but does not completely negate) self-control.

Examples of drug (or more generally, substance) addictions include alcoholism, marijuana Addiction, amphetamine addiction, cocaine, eating or food addiction. Alternatively, behavioural addictions may include gambling, Internet, video game? Ponograghy and sexual addiction.

Signs To Know You're Addicted

Some persons are addicted but don't even know, because it has become part of who they are. 

Here are some signs to know you're addicted or starting to be addicted to a substance or behavioural pattern:
  • Urge to use drugs regularly.
  • Decreased attendance and performance in work place or school.
  • Lack of motivation.
  • Fearful, paranoid or anxious without probable cause.
  • Unmaintained physical appearance/hygiene.
  • Use of substance despite consequences to personal relationships.
  • Depression.
  • Withdraw from from the public.

Prevention and Treatment of Addiction.


  • Acknowledge you're addicted or getting aaddicted.
  • Start something new and productive to keep you busy and away from your addiction.
  • Excercise daily.
  • See a therapist.
  • Avoid people that influences your bad decisions. (Peer presure)
